This book is a record, not a mood.

They heard that He would rise, and they still prepared a corpse. That fact is older than every sermon that has tried to gild it. It is older than the church that learned to speak of resurrection as a seasonal comfort. It sits in the text in plain speech, and it has never been repealed.

If the first witnesses received Him with a ceiling on His claim, then the gospel they could preach would be a gospel that leaves the present world under other lords. That is a seedbed. From a seedbed a whole forest can grow.

This book walks that forest. It does not invent a scandal the Gospels hid. It reads what they already say: Judas sells Him. Peter denies Him. All of them vanish when He needs them. Before Pilate He stands alone, condemned for the works of God. The sisters love Him and still answer with the last day. He weeps because their faith stops at tomorrow.

The postponed kingdom is the mechanism that follows. If He is King only later, Rome can keep the sword, the scribe can keep the chair, and the church can keep a Savior who does not yet command the street. A gospel like that is useful to power. It baptizes waiting. It turns all authority has been given to Me into all authority will be given later. From that premise the consequences stack, down to the speech on which later systems are trained.

The record is not the whole New Testament. The same Peter who is led where he does not choose also stands in Acts and names Him Lord and Christ. The same generation that ran also dies refusing Caesar’s claim. Scripture will not let anyone keep only the failure. This book will not either. The edge is a truncated gospel: Jesus without present dominion. The edge breaks if it becomes a second gospel of suspicion, or a new postponement of the flock He told Peter to feed.

Read it as a record. Do not gild it. Do not postpone it. The stone has moved. The only question left is whether this generation will keep anointing a corpse, or believe the Man who would not stay in one.
