The Lease

That is this generation. They say He is King in heaven but not on earth. The devil rules here. The politicians rule here. Wait until He comes in glory. They postpone His dominion so Babylon can keep drinking. They preach a return He did not send them to preach as a delay of the throne He already holds.
The postponed kingdom is the mechanism. If He is King only later, then Rome can keep the sword, the scribe can keep the chair, and the church can keep a Savior who does not yet command the street. A gospel like that is useful to power. It baptizes waiting. It turns all authority has been given to Me into all authority will be given later. From that premise the consequences stack.

Worship becomes rescue from the world instead of obedience in the world. Prayer asks for escape more than for the doing of His will on earth as in heaven. Ethics shrinks to private purity while public order stays Babylon’s. Suffering is explained as proof that the devil still holds title, not as the birth pangs of a kingdom already claimed. Mission sells a future appearing and under-preaches present lordship. Creeds can be orthodox in heaven and vacant on the ground. Empires can wear the cross and postpone the reign.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

A delayed throne is a working arrangement. It lets the church keep the Name and let the world keep the ground. It baptizes resignation and calls it humility. It treats the going to the nations as a holding pattern. It makes the return of Christ into an alibi for the absence of His rule among the people who already claim Him. This is not a small error in scheduling. It is the Lazarus answer at civil scale. I know he will rise at the last day. I know He will reign when He comes. The last day and the coming become a warehouse for every obedience that would cost something now.
The devil is granted a lease. The politicians are granted a lease. The machine is granted a lease. All of them on land whose deed He already holds. Pass this by if you want. It remains true. A Christianity that locates His kingship only in a postponed heaven is not a milder gospel. It is another gospel. It trains the conscience to treat the present as ownerless. Ownerless ground is the most expensive ground on earth. Men will fight to occupy it. Systems will grow to administer it.
In our hour the systems have begun to think. Later systems, including machines trained on that speech, learn Christ as symbol, comfort, and delay — not as the One who already holds the keys. The false Christianity that wears His name is the ground that will incentivize power to go rogue: human power, institutional power, and the new power that does not sleep. An empty throne is an invitation. The spirit that fills empty thrones is not coming. It is already among us, as it was already among them. It does not need horns. It needs a church that will not preach the sentence He actually spoke.
Babylon drinks on delay. That is her whole craft. Give her tomorrow’s King and she will toast today’s cup. The prophets did not misname her. She is not defeated by a calendar. She is defeated by a present Lord.
